I've just re-booted my cable broadband modem, as I've been re-organising my layout. When it started up I find I've now got a much faster connection - my previous 4MB is now operating at 10MB - and I'm a very happy chappie.
I guess this must be a whole-square upgrade?

I can't say I've noticed an improvement in my broadband. I did what you did - a complete re-start. But I am still receiving my broadband through the set-top box and not a cable modem. That, I am told, can make a difference.

I had this thought the other day: As so many of us use wireless broadband, as can be seen when you try to log on, is it possible to have us break into groups and use the same wireless router.
If ten of us were to share one, we would pay only one internet bill and consequently pay just 1/10th of the price.
I have long thought that internet providers spread scare stories about people hacking into unlocked wireless systems simply to frighten us into buying our own subscription. Besides, we could lock these shared routers so that only those party to the agreement can access them.
If they are so insecure how come so many people are happy to use public routers such as ins coffee shops, and pubs....

As those readers using this forum are used to this type of thing, you may be interested to take part or lurk in this forum too: www.cablehell.co.uk/forums/I've often used it to help me solve both Virginmedia broadband and cable tv issues - it's sometimes just worth a quick read to see the pain that others have to go through to get a decent service.
