Hello all,
I'm moving into the square in a couple of weeks and wondered if any of you could help with information on access for moving-in furniture. Is there such a thing as a service lift, or just the (small) passenger lifts? Are there any other access issues of which I should be aware?
Any other move-in tips are also very welcome.
Thank you

The only lifts are those in all the houses. They are not service lifts just the normal ones for everyday use. When people move in, their use of the lifts can be slightly disruptive but nobody minds. We've all had to do it. In houses where there are two lifts, one of them usually has a switch you can use to stop the lift at the floor you're one.
I don't know what house you are moving into but unless it's on Grosvenor Road, you can usually park your van on the carriageway outside the door of your house. Some people park on the pathway but there is no real need to do that on the west carriageway as it's wide enough for people to pass.
I assume you're bringing a friend or someone to help because as far as I know the porters do not help people move in and out - although they do a lot of other good things as you'll find out when you've moved in.
Welcome to the Square, Hef, and we hope you'll join the Dolphin Square Residents' Association.

Hi,
Just moved in myself a week ago and have a couple of questions?
1 - I have a pile of cardboard packing boxes - would anyone be able to make use of them? 2 - What sort of things am I allowed to ask the maintenance team to do? Eg can I ask them to hang pictures or are they there for "my heating is broken" type requests only.
Thanks

Teresa - welcome!
Maintenance will maintain your flat, but they don't do personal odd jobs. You need to phone Danny - who is the all round general helpful chap who, for a price, will do almost anything. he's on 6029 internally.
You may find some of your neighbours helpful too ..

Teresa, You can get permission from the lettings department to do some DIY yourself if you feel inclined. They can be quite helpful if you ask I think James Hornet is in charge. You can get hold of him through the helpdesk.

Hi all,
I have just moved into Dolphin Square myself and am currently undertaking the joyous process of unpacking. With all the wrapping, bubble pack etc i have generated quite a lot of refuse. Aside from our individual collections, are there any larger waste bins onsite? Alternatively do we have an onsite recycling centre?
Having moved to Dolphin Square for its community i have managed to join the BDC already. With regards to the DSTA, does anyone know where i need to go, or who i need to see to join? Being new to London i am eager to get involved and start making new friends and acquaintances. If anyone has any tips or suggestions about groups, clubs etc they would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance, and also retrospectively, this forum has made moving to Dolphin Square far easier, and a lot less daunting!
Nathan

Hi Nathan
Welcome to the Square. To join the DSTA contact membership secretary Bill Gibbon on ext5565, chairman Brendan Martin ext 5618 or email brendan@brendan.co.uk You will be very welcome. And if you around this Saturday, come along to the DSTA's 50th birthday party in the Spanish Garden between 2.00 and 6.00pm
As to the packaging and bubblewrap, the recycling facilities in the Square are limited to paper and glass at the moment. But if you go to the bins to be found on the corner of Chichester Street and Claverton Street, you can dump all that rubbish there.

Hi, I have also moved in and am having problems with the free Virgin cable for my TV-there was an NTL box left in the flat with no smartcard in it-Do I need to get this from Virgin?? Is there a cost?? Also in regards to Broadband-can I only get this through Virgin-as it is very expensive through them?
Also, where would I find a directory of numbers for say Maintenance etc etc. Kind regards, Holly

Hi Holly and welcome.
I don't know what the procedures are now but I'm sure that the Help Desk at the front office in Dolphin House should be able to answer all your questions, and also give you the necessary directory numbers.
In terms of TV - I remember a Virgin fixer having to come to set my TV up for no cost. You can get broadband from wherever you like, but if you don't want cable I believe you'll need to pay for a separate telephone line from the internal one provided by DS, as theirs has capacity issues. Again this may not now be the case as a lot of things have been upgraded recently. Perhaps a more recent incomer can respond to you with better advice.
However, the Virgin cable broadband has been great for me - rock solid and has never let me down. I hope you get your problems sorted soon.
Take care,
Bill

Thanks again, Holly

hi Holly, Welcome to the Square. The Dolphin phone is cheaper than the Virgin phone.
You can have Virgin broadband and cable tv without having to get a phone line from them.
The multiple options are all a bit confusing! I took the Virgin phone line then discovered I didn't need it to make the broadband work. But am stuck with it for one year (need to keep paying even if have it disconnected).
