A number of tenants have contacted the DSTA concerning letters from Mantilla saying that the landlord wishes to inspect their flats. The landlord has right to do this in order to see that the flat is in good structural order and for safety reasons.
The chairman of the DSTA was present at one of the first of these inspections and found that the inspectors (Amos Barber and James Thornett) were professional and courteous.
They took notes concerning the condition of the flat and undertook to sort out a problem with the tenant's taps. Mr Barber maintains that this repair is not the landlord's responsibility but the DSTA feel it is. However, Mr Barber is going to see that the repair is carried out at no charge to the tenant.
The DSTA has ascertained from Mr Barber that any tenant who wishes to have a friend or a representative from the DSTA or the BDC may do so. Female tenants who wish to have a female member of Mantilla staff present rather than two males may request that and their wish will be respected, according to Mr Barber.
The selection of flats for inspection is done at random, says Mantilla, and all Option B flats will be inspected.
